March_24_7 vs the Bracketology World

Here are the results of some of the Bracketologists that you might know:

Honestly, I had hoped to do better, although being ahead of Joe Lunardi, both CBS Sportsline guys, The Sporting News, Yahoo, Bracketology 101, and numbers guru Warren Nolan does make me feel a little better.  Also, out of 89 brackets posted at the Bracket Project, only Jordan Schwartz managed to select even 67 of the 68 teams correctly.  As a reference, in each of the past 3 years, multiple brackets were able to predict the entire field.  This year, there wasn't even 1 bracket that agreed with the Committee's field, and that is before we even talk about seeding.  That just goes to show what a wacky job the Committee did this year.  More on that to come in another post.

While the table above deals with a bracketologist's good choices, there is nothing about how badly some of the seeds were missed.  The following table shows an area that March_24_7 really shined in this year.

March_24_7 had the fewest blunders of any bracket, including all 89 of the brackets posted at the Bracket Project.  My only big miss was Utah State, which I had as a 9 seed instead of the 12 that they received.  I wasn't the only one to miss big on Utah State.  Only 11% of the brackets had Utah State as a double digit seed, and not a single one had them as low as a 12!

Also, notice that none of my projected 10 or 11 seeds were left out of the tournament.  My 3 misses were all 12 seeds.  Meanwhile, Joe Lunardi, Bracketology 101, Jordan Schwartz, Warren Nolan, and Andy Glockner all had Colorado as an 11.  Hoopville had Virginia Tech as an 11 and Colorado as a 10.  March_24_7 excelled at showing you who was truly on the bubble.

Overall, the process was fun to go through, and although I'm ready for a break from the constant studying of resumes, by mid-April I will once again be longing for the fall when college basketball starts again.  In the meantime, keep checking back with March_24_7.  I am currently working on a "letter to the committee" that will address some of the specifics of this year's bracket.  It should be posted in the next 24 hours or so.  I will also be updating the site with different tidbits throughout the offseason.  Just like the slogan says, March_24_7: Where March Madness Lives Year Round!
